Sunny days & porny nights: Brussels warms up for Labour Day Weekend

New Month, New Weekend, New Us!

The sun has finally landed in Brussels, and guys it was about time. The first four months of the year were a slow burn, the 9-to-5 (if not more) grind was doing its thing, and we were all quietly waiting for the city to come back alive. So, this is the forecast for our Labour day weekend: The city looking beautiful, activism, hot vibes and us, not holding back.

Between open-airs, raves, underground marathons, and sex positive parties, there's a little something for every version of yourself this weekend. So let's talk about what's going on, because dancing is political, and we're here for all of it.

FRIDAY 1 MAY

Hangar Festival — (Friday and Saturday)

Quai de Heembeek, 12:00–00:00*

For those ready to kick off festival season in a big way, Hangar is back for its 5th anniversary, taking over its now-iconic spot along the canal banks. The Brussels-based crew has stepped things up this year: new stages, a barge transformed into a proper performance space, and an overall shift towards more curated, intimate experiences rather than just scale. And personally for me, it feels like the right move.

The line-up follows that vision, mixing UK garage, techno, and strong Belgian talent. Across the two days, you can expect names like Daria Kolosova, Overmono, Mia Koden, Oppidan, Patrick Mason, Avalon Emerson, Ben UFO b2b Joy Orbison, Girls Don’t Sync, Gjin Lipa and Kim Turnbull shaping the weekend.

Day 1 leans into techno and UK bass energy, while Day 2 opens things up into a broader, more flowing spectrum.

For me, one highlight I would not miss is Girls Don’t Sync. Bringing that unapologetic girlie attitude, high-energy, and freshness to the stage. Exactly the kind of vibe you want when you are surrounded by thousands of people ready to fully dive into festival mode.

🎫Tickets: Hangar

Place du Nord × Magma — Labour Day Open Air

Next to Brussels North Station, 16:00–22:00

Smaller crowd, warmer vibe. The Brussels collective Magma and Place Noord join forces to celebrate Labour Day the right way: dancing outdoors, together, for free. A warm neighbourhood open-air right next to the North Station, just the kind of party that feels like a community hug.

LINE-UP:

Double Double DJs B4B Magma Boyz

Four DJs, two b2b pairings. Friday-afternoon-meets-political-act energy. This one's free, it's local, and it's exactly what May 1st should feel like.

Beautiful Freaks — 16 Hours of Madness

Buda BXL, 23:59 → Saturday afternoon

For those who are really in it for a long dance session, and just an open air or a club night doesn’t feel enough: Beautiful Freaks, the community party, is back at Buda BXL for another full-day-into-night-into-day session. Sixteen hours. Vinyl-only sets. Hi-end sound system. A safe and inclusive dancefloor as a non-negotiable.

This edition brings together various generations and musical horizons, from deep house to experimental club and everything in between. Artists: DJ ATHOME, aaron, Gurl, Diogo Lacerda and Oriana.

The Beautiful Freaks ethos is about what club culture should be: long sets, no rushing, real care for the people in the room. Community tickets are available for those who need them. If you've never been, this weekend is a good excuse to start.

Brussels Bass Festival — Circle Park × Studio Citygate

17 hours, 30 artists, 3 rooms

For something that leans heavier and bassier: Brussels Bass Festival is coming to Circle Park and the entire Studio Citygate building for a 17-hour deep dive into bass music. We're talking UK Garage, Drum & Bass, Jump Up, Neurofunk, Dubstep, Riddim, the full spectrum. It starts at Circle Park and from 10pm moves into multiple stages across Studio Citygate. Thirty local and international artists. This is the one for the bass heads. It looks crazy fun, and we love the venues.

Porny Night (Brussels Porn Film Festival Night)

C12, Rue des Marchés aux Herbes 116 — 23:00 to 07:00*

Okay, let's talk about this one properly, because it deserves more than a line, specially if you are not familiar with the concept of a sex positive party.

The Brussels Porn Film Festival brings its annual party night to C12: a night where the dancefloor and the playrooms coexist, where joy and sexuality are celebrated together and on the same terms. No phones, no posing: Just bodies, human connection, music, and freedom playing together.

Before you go, you should know what kind of space you're entering, and what's expected of you in it.

The vibe is one of radical consent, genuine care, and collective freedom. Sexuality is welcome, not mandatory. Nudity is accepted everywhere. If you're there, you're there to enjoy yourself and to make sure everyone around you can do the same. That means reading the room, asking before assuming, and understanding that a "no" (verbal or non-verbal) is the end of the conversation. There are playrooms for everyone. There's a care team on site. Safer sex tools and harm reduction are available. All of this exists because the organizers know that freedom requires infrastructure.

Come as you want to be seen. The dress code is anything that makes you feel sexy — kinky, fantastical, partial nudity, full nudity, whatever that means to you. Everyday casual wear is the only thing that doesn't fit here. The invitation is to show up.

This is not a show, this is not a regular party, this is a space for people to live a very human and natural experience, in a world where image, screens and social media are dehumanizing us more and more.

One last thing before you leave:

Dancing has always been political. It's been a form of resistance, of community building, of reclaiming joy in the face of whatever the world is throwing at us, don’t forget this.

This Labour Day weekend, lets make it feel stronger than ever. Revendicate, fight. But also let’s not forget to have fun and connect together, we don’t have much more than that in this world that we are living in today.

Whatever party you end up at, big or small, underground or commercial, dressed or undressed, take care of the people around you and don’t be an asshole. Be present. Be free. And let loose, because we've earned it.

See you on the dancefloor guapos :)
